.:tHe pOOr:.

After watching the end of The Truth Project video series tonight, I was reminded of something very important: The Lord's heart for the poor and oppressed. This is a list of verses that I compiled back on January 31st, 2005. It will do me well to review these once again. I hope all who read this see The Lord's heart for the poor.

Jeremiah 22:15-16
15"But a beautiful palace does not make a great king! Why did your father, Josiah, reign so long? Because he was just and right in all his dealings. That is why God blessed him. 16He made sure that justice and help were given to the poor and needy, and everything went well for him. Isn't that what it means to know me?" asks the LORD.

2 Corinthians 9:8-10
8And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 9As the Scriptures say,
"Godly people give generously to the poor.
Their good deeds will never be forgotten."
10For God is the one who gives seed to the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will give you many opportunities to do good, and he will produce a great harvest of generosity in you.

Proverbs 19:17
If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD--and he will repay you!

Luke 14:12-14
12Then he turned to his host. "When you put on a luncheon or a dinner," he said, "don't invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will repay you by inviting you back. 13Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. 14Then at the resurrection of the godly, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you."

Luke 14:20-22
20Another had just been married, so he said he couldn't come.
21"The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was angry and said, `Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the city and invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.' 22After the servant had done this, he reported, `There is still room for more.'

Proverbs 31:19-21
19Her hands are busy spinning thread,
her fingers twisting fiber.
20She extends a helping hand to the
poor and opens her arms to the needy.
21She has no fear of winter for her
household because all of them have warm clothes.

Proverbs 30:8-10
8First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. 9For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, "Who is the LORD?" And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God's holy name.
10Never slander a person to his employer. If you do, the person will curse you, and you will pay for it.

Deuteronomy 15:10-12
10 Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. 11 There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.

2 Samuel 12:1-3
Nathan Rebukes David
1 The LORD sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, "There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, 3 but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.

Galatians 2:9-11
9In fact, James, Peter, and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews. 10The only thing they suggested was that we remember to help the poor, and I have certainly been eager to do that.

Ezekiel 16:48-50
48As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, Sodom and her daughters were never as wicked as you and your daughters. 49Sodom's sins were pride, laziness, and gluttony, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door. 50She was proud and did loathsome things, so I wiped her out, as you have seen.

34You know that these hands of mine have worked to pay my own way, and I have even supplied the needs of those who were with me. 35And I have been a constant example of how you can help the poor by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: `It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "
36When he had finished speaking, he knelt and prayed with them.

1 Corinthians 11:21-23
21For I am told that some of you hurry to eat your own meal without sharing with others. As a result, some go hungry while others get drunk. 22What? Is this really true? Don't you have your own homes for eating and drinking? Or do you really want to disgrace the church of God and shame the poor? What am I supposed to say about these things? Do you want me to praise you? Well, I certainly do not!
23For this is what the Lord himself said, and I pass it on to you just as I received it. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took a loaf of bread,

.:FittiNg:.

I have been searching for a kennel for Rupert but it seems he is too tall for most. Finally, I came across one that is fitting. Here is the description the lady posted on craigslist. ;)

"We overestimated how large the pup would grow,
so this gigantic cage, it's got to go!
And though we got it used and it's a little twisted,
it's still a a bargain for what we've listed.
But let's not obscure its best feature:
this cage can hold most any creature!
Be it giant dog or smallish calf,
miniature horse or short giraffe,
billy goats gruff, pot-bellied pig,
"baby" alligator grown too big.
Yes, any pet would love this billet,
please take it quick before the pup can fill it!
P.S.You might want to bring a friend, it's pretty heavy,
and don't forget the van or flat-bed Chevy! "

It is in Waupaca and I will be picking it up Thursday afternoon.
Fitting don't you think?

.:Light:.

Truly the light is sweet, And it is pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun
- From the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 11 verse 7

When we understand the outside of things, we think we have them: the Lord puts his things in subdefined, suggestive shapes, yielding no satisfactory meaning to the mere intellect, but unfolding themselves to the conscience and heart, to the man himself, in the process of life-effort. According as the new creation, that of reality, advances in him, the man becomes able to understand the words, the symbols, the parables of the Lord. For life, that is, action, is alone the human condition into which the light of the Living can penetrate; life alone can assimilate life, can change food into growth.

.:Lovingkindness:.

Your lovingkindness, O LORD, extends to the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
Your judgments are like a great deep.
O LORD, You preserve man and beast.
How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house;
And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights.
For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.

From Psalm 36 verses 7-9

.:Continuing a Story:.

I had spoken the other day about finishing some things that I had begun a while back. One of which is a story about a woman who is called to the displaced persons of the world.

You know, sometimes when bridges are not bridges anymore, they still serve a purpose. Some men are like that as well, they were at one point built up for a seemingly great purpose but eventually fell and basically crumbled to the ground under the weight of the world. There was one such man that Echo dreamed of. He was a quiet man with a gray hair or two who had a great future and hope. She wondered how he could make his way to the pantry each day with such uncoordinated feet that he was given.

Philippians 1:3-6
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ

To be continued...

.:Comfort Dear Child:.

When visiting my friend tonight in the hospital after having her baby, she spoke to me of a great comfort of holding her child upon her breast. She said she wished she could have The Lord hold her like that. In some ways He truly does.

These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost
whom The Father will send in my name
He shall teach you all things
and bring all things to your remembrance
whatsoever I have said unto you.
Peace I leave with you
my peace I give unto you
not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your heart be troubled,
neither let it be afraid.

-Jesus's words in John chapter 14 verses 25-27

I have learned a bit the past few days about The Lord's heart. He longs to be our comfort. We cannot trust others or other things to be The Great Comforter. When we do try to, we end up with insecurities and soon comes sin. His comfort is a beautiful blanket that warms us and covers us woven with love and truth. Each strand is carefully knit together with the most valuable thread imaginable. He is thankful to share this with us.

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
Speak ye comfort to Jerusalem, and cry unto her,
that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned:
for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins.

-From the book of Isaiah chapter 40 verses 1 and 2

His words of conviction, are usually followed with words of comfort,
for He that has torn will heal us.

-From Matthew Henry's Commentary

The longer we live with one another,
the more comfort we need Him to provide.
Be thankful, He will provide it.
This is the heart of The God I know and love.
I have been hurt and caused hurt.
Sometimes Jesus is a lot like me.
He is selfless in His intentions,
sadly ours are often not so.
At the root of it, through it all,
I knew He must increase and I must decrease.
There is no one like Him and we can never provide
the lasting comfort and security He can.

“Remember, we all stumble, every one of us.
That's why it's a comfort to go hand-in-hand.”

-Emily Kimbrough
